At naked celebrities the Roundtable, INTER RAO UES and the Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett presented a possible new Project of creating a new electrical interconnection between Russia and Norway (“Pechenga Power Bridge” Project).  If realized, it would be a significant step towards closer partnership in the Energy Sector between Russia and Norway.  This new infrastructure would allow electricity to be exchanged between the countries over a new 132 kV line at Skogfoss.  It would create a long-term source of power supply for the growing energy-intensive industries in the region and significantly improve power systems’ stability and power market integration. Moreover, it would be beneficial for the development and exchange of renewable energy generation in the northern regions of Russia and Norway. The Roundtable supports the principal idea of the “Pechenga Power Bridge” Project as an example of increased power trade between the two countries and proposes that these issues will be given priority in the follow-up of the Business Forum.

The potential of bioenergy is very large and may cover a substantial share in the energy supply of the country. Bioenergy projects also have a strong positive effect on the environment, both with regards to reduced emissions of climate gases and reduced harmful run-off to rivers and lakes. The Norwegian Russian project development company R-Energo presented an example of a bioenergy project in Veliky Novgorod that is planned to generate 2,4 MW heat and power from the waste from the pig breeding farm and slaughterhouse of Novgorodky Bekon. The Roundtable regards that the development of bioenergy should be given high priority in the follow-up, with special focus on the possibility of introduction of new technology and commercial solutions.

The use of such systems documented savings in the range of 10 – 70 % compared to the present situation, both in new and old buildings and both from improved maintenance and operations as well as investments in new technology. NP “The St. Petersburg House Property Owners Association” presented the scheme of introducing energy efficiency investments in apartment buildings. The association together with the individual housings has documented a large potential for reducing the energy consumption, but highlighted also the present barriers regarding the financing of such investments in this sector. In following up the cooperation in this field, the Roundtable will stress the importance of addressing both the introduction of new technology, implementation of maintenance routines and the need to develop efficient financing systems and solutions, especially both in the apartment sector as well as other sectors.
